In Celebration of

Wai-Ho (Michael) Fan

January 31, 1963 -  December 4, 2017

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Michael who died peacefully in his sleep, at the young age of 54 years old, on December 4, 2017. Loving and caring son of Kwai Chuen Fan and Lai Lan Fan (née Wan), brother of late Wai Fan (Henry) Fan and surviving sibling, Holly Mee Boo Fan (Eddie Wong). Cherished uncle of Vanessa, Madison, and Zachery. Dearest nephew of Gordon (Jenny), bestest cousin and golf partner to Gary (Diana) and great cousin of Karlie. He will be missed immensely by many relatives, friends, co-workers and anyone who crossed paths with him.

Michael had a witty (although sarcastic) sense of humour and was an avid and knowledgeable athlete who not only loved to watch sports (especially the Detroit Red Wings), but who was also passionate about playing all types of sports. From participating in the annual Mooney’s Bay beach volleyball events, the annual golfing ‘Green Jacket’ tournament at Mont St. Marie to his Carleton Tavern slo-pitch team games and rounds of golf as an Executive Golf Member, Mike made many long lasting friendships throughout his lifetime. Mike had so many friends, there are just too many to name, but you all know who you are and he was grateful to have formed special bonds with every one of you.

Mike was always there for his family members. He was dedicated to taking care of his mom and dad, helping out his sister and he spent many special moments with his nieces and nephew. Uncle Mike would take them out for Halloween every year and spend Christmas morning with them as they excitedly opened their gifts from Santa. Uncle Mike seemed to know exactly what they each wanted for Christmas every year as he always got them their most favourite gift on their wish lists. Over the years, he would come out to watch Madison’s hockey games, attend Vanessa’s dance shows (although I think he fell asleep once or twice) and loved to swim in the pool with Zachery. He also enjoyed dinners with his Uncle Gordon and Aunt Jenny and many years of playing Nintendo games which then turned into many rounds of golf with his cousin Gary.

A private gathering of immediate family will be held on Monday, Dec. 11. 2017 at the Beechwood Crematory. Michael’s final resting place will be in the Beechwood Cemetery Mausoleum in Ottawa, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers or donations, we ask that you dedicate a round of golf or a game of slo-pitch or think of him when watching a Red Wing’s game or listening to a Fleetwood Mac tune or raise a glass (or two) at the Carleton Tavern in celebration of his memory. We welcome friends and family to sign the guestbook to share your memorable moments with Mike.

It is hard to believe that Mike won't be part of our regular Poker and golf games again. I'm sure that he will be thought of for many years to come when our group meets for our regular sessions and memories will be shared about his unique Poker Strategy and Golf experiences. I will miss you old friend.

Mike and I worked together for a few years at Nortel...yes, he did have a sarcastic sense of humor but was always good for a giggle and for Doug, a fun round of golf. He had a good heart and it is a sad day for all who knew him and especially his family. Rest in peace Mike.
