In Celebration of

S/S/Maj Kyle Graham RCMP (Retired)

August 6, 1929 -  July 4, 2017

Staff Sgt. Major RCMP (Ret’d)
August 8th 1929 - July 4th 2017.

After a short illness, passed away peacefully at the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital at 87 years of age. Born in Leamington Ontario, he joined the RCMP in 1949. A musician at heart he served with the RCMP Band until 1961 in Ottawa, where he then served at headquarters in Ottawa for 23 more years. After retirement from the RCMP in 1984 he worked with the Information Commissioner of Canada until 1994 when he finally retired to a life of music, woodworking and time with his family.

He will be deeply missed by beloved wife Lois (née Yule) of 54 years. His strong silent determination and energy will be remembered by his children Cameron (Andrea), Shawn (Nicole), Laurie and his Grandchildren Kieran, Jordan, Brooke, Ewan and Jamie. He is predeceased by his sister Elaine Dunmore and will be missed by his nephews Kevin (Darleen) and Perry (Jillian).

Kyle was a dedicated member of the Orpheus Operatic Society, the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, the Dominion Chalmers United Church Choir, National Capital Concert Band, and the National Capital Clarinet Consort. Kyle loved working with his hands and will be remembered by his friends and neighbors for working long hours on projects in his garage. He instilled in his children a dedication to duty and hard work that he learned as a market garden farmer in Leamington and which he instilled in them while they worked summers on the family gardens on Lois’s family farm in Perth Ontario.

The family will receive friends at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa), on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Dominion Chalmers United Church 355 Cooper Street, Ottawa on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 10 a.m. with reception to follow. Interment to take place in the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery at Beechwood Cemetery.

Kyle’s family would like to thanks the staff of the Ottawa Civic and General Hospital for the compassionate care they provide Kyle over the past few weeks. Donations can be made in his memory to the National Capital Concert Band or the Ottawa Hospital Foundation.

Remembering the wonderful, warm and talented Kyle, and cherishing the time we spent playing bass clarinet side by side together during his last two years with the National Capital Concert Band. Kyle was not only a skilled musician but a friendly, caring and welcoming person, always offering a fun anecdote about his beloved Leamington (oh that ketchup factory!), remembering stories from his days on the road playing bass for the RCMP, or sharing his latest source of pride from his long list of family members, and especially his wife, children and grandchildren. In our short time together, it was so obvious to me how rich of a life he enjoyed, how happy Kyle was and how much love was in his life, and how much positivity and warmth he bestowed upon his family and community. I am unfortunately not able to join the celebration on Wednesday morning to honor his memory, but will be there in spirit. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to get to know such a friendly, talented and contented person, and will take a little time this week to remember him with great fondness and respect. Sending condolences to Kyle's family, and thank you for sharing him with us!
