MANCHIP, Robert James
CGA, CPA
Born: 15 August 1937, Moncton, N.B.
Died: 16 April 2017, Ottawa-Nepean, ON
It is with great sadness that his family announces that Robert Manchip passed away peacefully at his home in Ottawa on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017, after a 14-year battle with prostate cancer. He was the son of the late James and Thelma (Staples) Manchip of Fredericton, N.B. Bob will be sadly missed by the love of his life and partner of 22 years, Ruta Danaitis, and by his daughter Kristine Manchip (Michael Suitor) of North Saanich, BC and son David (Simone Seguin) and granddaughter Sidnee Ella Manchip of Saanichton, BC. He will also be fondly remembered by his “adopted” niece and nephew, Anna and Algis. After achieving his professional accounting designation, Bob spent his career with the internal audit branches of the Federal departments of National Defence and Revenue Canada - Customs & Excise. After retirement, when not travelling the world near and far with Ruta, Bob enthusiastically pursued his interest in genealogy and had tracked his English, Scottish, Welsh and Dutch ancestors back nine generations. He was also an avid cyclist and enjoyed fishing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Clinic for their care and compassion since Bob’s cancer diagnosis, particularly Dr Canil and Dr Samant. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses of all the other units of the Ottawa Hospital who participated in Bob’s care during this time. Thanks also to Dr W Polan, Bob’s GP, for his professional care provided for almost 30 years. And many thanks also to Dr Shamim who provided excellent palliative care during the last several months. Also thanks to the CCAC, and the nurses of St-Elizabeth, especially Carrie and Godwin and many, many more too numerous to list, whose care and compassion made the last months easier. Also thanks to Joseline of Bayshore. Family and friends are invited to visit at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue (East of Vanier Parkway), Monday April 24, 2017 from 10 a.m. until time of the memorial service in the Sacred Space at 11 a.m., followed by interment in the Beechwood Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, or to the James Manchip Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Fredericton Music Festival, PO Box 114, Fredericton, N.B., E3B 4Y2.
