In Celebration of

M. Jalal

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of M. Jalal, a.k.a "Jal", who died peacefully in Ottawa on July 11, 2017, at the age of 85. Jal was born in West Bengal, India. He received his first degrees from Presidency College at the University of Calcutta and subsequently won a scholarship to the London School of Economics, United Kingdom. After graduating he married Shakila, an elected official in the Indian Legislative Assembly and moved to Canada in 1967 as he was recruited into the Canadian Federal Public Service. During his celebrated career, he received a Queen's Commission via Order-in-Council and retired after three decades of dedication to our nation's prosperity. A loving husband, adored father, revered father-in-law and cherished grandfather, he leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom and joie de vivre around the world. A celebration of Jal's life will be held at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services- Sacred Space at 2 p.m. on Friday July 14, 2017 (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa) - open to all. Burial and reception to follow.
