It is with great sadness that the family of Lucille Marguerite Welsh announces her passing on Wednesday January 2, 2019 at the Montfort Long Term Care Centre, Ottawa. Lucille was 95 years old, and will be lovingly remembered by Stanley, her husband of 64 years, and their children, Patricia, Michael (Patricia), and Doris (Pierre Garneau). Cherished grandmother to Adam (Ashley) and Sarah (Marc); Alison (Brad), Emma-Leigh (Blaise) and Rosaly Welsh (Justin); Nicolas (Eliane) and Shanna Garneau (Chad), and proud great-grandmother of Taylor, Isaac and Alice.

Predeceased by her parents; Marguerite (née Ruel) and Henri Pouliot, and her siblings; Cécile-Jeannine, Jean-Louis, Louisette (the late Laurent Blouin), Denise (the late Roger Légaré), Françoise, Raymond (the late Thérese), and Jeannine (Robert Bégin). Dear Sister-in-law of Pearl (Peter) Seggie, Minnie (the late John Farley) and the late Ronnie and Dunelda McCrae, of Scotland. Along with many nieces and nephews in Québec and Scotland.

Her life was guided by her Catholic faith, and love for her family. She was the eldest of 8 children, and all her siblings await her in the great hereafter. Her way of life was influenced by a childhood in the depression years, wasting little, collecting, and the duty to help her family. She developed an expertise on the treadle sewing machine. Her children would be clothed in garments she made. At 18 she was sponsored to attend l‘École supérieure de Commerce by her tante Cécile, and became a secretary at Goodyear Inc., and Davie Ship Yards Quebec in the 1940’s.

She met her soldier husband Stanley Hibben Welsh, a Scotsman, on the boardwalk in her native Ville de Québec in 1954. They were married in l'église Sainte-Charles de Limoilou, so beginning a life of military postings with their children in Canada and overseas. They retired in Ottawa in 1984.

Her character was centered on goodness; her disposition mild, humble and obliging. Elle était très douce. A lamb of God. She was soft spoken and would bless conversation with her gentle laughter.

In the progress of dementia, when all constructs of character are dismantled, her pure core of goodness still shone, and she persisted without complaint.

Friends are invited to gather and pay respects at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave. on Friday, January 11, 2019 after 11 a.m. Funeral
Service will be held in the Sacred Space at 1 p.m. followed by interment at the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces and a reception.

Lucille avait 95 ans, et Stanley, son époux depuis 64 ans, ses enfants Patricia, Michael (Patricia) et Doris (Pierre Garneau) s’en souviendront avec amour. Grand-mère chérie d'Adam (Ashley) et Sarah (Marc); Alison (Brad), Emma-Leigh (Blaise) et Rosaly Welsh (Justin); Nicolas (Éliane) et Shanna Garneau (Chad) et fière arrière-grand-mère de Taylor, Isaac et Alice.
Pré-décédée par ses parents; Marguerite (née Ruel) et Henri Pouliot et ses frères et sœurs; Cécile-Jeannine, Jean-Louis, Louisette (feu Laurent Blouin), Denise (feu Roger Légaré), Françoise, Raymond (feu Thérèse) et Jeannine (Robert Bégin). Chère belle-sœur de Pearl (Peter) Seggie, Minnie (feu John Farley) et feu Ronnie et Dunelda McCrae d'Écosse. De même que plusieurs nièces et neveux au Canada et en Écosse.
Sa vie a été guidée par sa foi catholique et son amour pour sa famille. Elle était l'aînée de huit enfants et tous ses frères et sœurs l'attendaient dans l'au-delà. Son mode de vie a été influencé par une enfance dans les années de dépression conduisant au devoir d'aider sa famille et au développement de l'expertise sur la machine à coudre à pédale. Ses enfants seraient vêtus des vêtements qu'elle confectionnait. À 18 ans, elle est parrainée par sa tante Cécile pour aller à l’école supérieure de commerce. Elle devient secrétaire de Goodyear Inc. et de Davie Ship Yards Québec dans les années 1940.
Elle a rencontré son époux soldat Stanley Hibben Welsh, un Écossais, sur le trottoir de sa ville natale de Québec en 1954. Ils se sont mariés à l'église Sainte-Charles de Limoilou, C'est ainsi que commence une vie d'affectation militaire avec leurs enfants au Canada et à l'étranger. Ils ont pris leur retraite à Ottawa en 1984.
Son personnage était centré sur la bonté; son caractère doux, humble et obligeant. Elle était très douce. Un agneau de Dieu. Elle parlait doucement et bénissait la conversation avec son doux sourire.
Dans les progrès de la démence, quand toutes les constructions de caractère sont démantelées, son cœur pur de bonté est resté et elle a persisté sans se plaindre.
Les amis sont invités à se réunir et à rendre hommage au Centre commémoratif national de Beechwood, situé au 280, avenue Beechwood le vendredi 11 janvier 2019 après 11h00. Les funérailles auront lieu à la chapelle du salon funéraire à 13 heures suivie de l'inhumation au Cimetière militaire national des Forces canadiennes et d'une réception.
Un don à la Société Alzheimer serait apprécié.
