In Celebration of

Kamla "Kam" Chawla

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Kam Chawla, beloved and cherished wife of Raj Chawla for 44 years, proud mother of Sharon Salter (Marc), Shelly Chawla, and dear Grannie to Nicholas and Ava.

She lost her battle with glioblastoma after fighting it bravely and courageously for close to five months. Her uphill battle started with surgery at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, cancer therapy at Ottawa General, slimmer hope of recovery at Ottawa University's Rehab Center, and culminating at St. Vincent Hospital on February 11, 2019.

Kam came to Ottawa as a 2-day old bride at the peak of frigid winter weather of late January 1975. After upgrading her skills, she joined the Canadian federal government service in 1976 and retired as Financial Comptroller with the Canadian Forces Provost Marshal in December 2012. She will always be remembered as a hard and devoted worker with a kind and warm heart, pleasant and magnetic personality. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

The family wishes to thank all doctors, nurses, orderlies, and support staff who treated, cared, and provided support to her at all of the aforementioned hospitals.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue, on February 15th, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. On February 16th at 11.00 a.m. the Hindu 'Shanti Path' followed by lunch will take place at the Ottawa's Hindu Temple, 4835 Bank St. Ottawa.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.

Shelly and family, my heartfelt condolences on your loss. Kam was a colleague, friend and mentor to me, she was warm, kindhearted, stren when necessary, but above all loving. I was so interested to always talk about her early life, and to hear about the progress that both you and Sharon were making in your lives. She will keep watch over all of you until you meet again, allow your memories to help fill this time of sorrow, her beautiful smile, laugh and sparkling eyes.

My deepest sympathies to the family for your loss. I met Kam in 2012, when she was taking of the finance at Provost Marshal, very nice lady.
