In Celebration of

Hector Rafuse CD

Hector W.G. Rafuse CD

MWO (Retired) - RCOC

Korean War Veteran

Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Joyce Anglehart. Cherished father of Colleen, Kevin “Dan” (Sonya), Sharon (Roby Gagnon), Michael (Michelle), and stepfather to Ross, Neil and Andy. Proud grandfather to Rodney, Jeffrey, Sheryl, Brittney, Brandon and several step-grandchildren. Fond brother-in-law to Beverley (late Victor Rafuse) and dear nephew to Charles (Lola).

Hector was born in Martin’s Point, Nova Scotia. He joined the military at 17 years of age and retired after 35 years of service in 1982. His passion was his log cabin that he built on a small lake up in the Gatineau Hills, which reminded him of down home in Nova Scotia. His life belief was to treat people the way you would like to be treated yourself. We will all miss this kind and extraordinary man.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre for the quality of care provided.

Friends and family are invited to gather Thursday August 9th at the Hall of Colours of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave. after 10 a.m. Memorial Service will be held in the Sacred Space at 11 a.m. followed by interment at the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces.

In memory of Hector, donations to the Korean War Veterans’ Association, The Perley and Rideau Foundation or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.

Hector was one of the kindest, most thoughtful, funny men we have ever met. He wanted everyone to be happy, he loved a good joke, and a visit. He would have given anyone the shirt off his back. He was a father figure to each of us and our children and he taught us all so much. He was always trying to feed you ("let's have stew for a change" he'd say, for the 3 rd night in a row! or "want a ham sandwich?" Cam: "no thanks", Hector: "here's a ham sandwich", Cam "ok") A special man who had many, many friends and will be missed. Our hearts are with all who love him.

Fondly remembering the great times spend up at the cottage. And those card games at the farmhouse. I don't know who had more fun, Hector or Dad. Hector was always willing to lend a hand. He always wanted to get you something to eat or drink every time you came for a visit. Barry enjoyed the crib matches whenever we were back visiting.
Hector was one of the good guys and will be greatly missed. Sincere condolences to his family. Wendy, Barry and rest of the Wright Clan

We re very sad to hear of your fathers passing. We have a lot of very good memories of our experiences with Hector on the Lake. The lake has not been the same without his presents.
