Gordon "Vince" Clark (Major ret'd)

September 5, 1925 - August 30, 2017

In Ottawa, following a prolonged struggle with Alzheimer’s at the age of 91. Vince was married 69 years to Ruth Clark (nee Clarke). Loving father of Bill (Martha) and Fred (Brenda). Cherished grandfather of Eric (Mandy) and Heather. Great-grandfather of Isla and Lemmy. Survived by sister Margaret (Marple). Predeceased by his parents Fred and Caroline Clark, brothers Bill, Howard and Paul, sister Betty (Crowe) and son Gordon.

Vince enjoyed a long military career with the Royal Canadian Engineers, UN Peacekeeping (Gaza), and National Defence Headquarters; he also belonged to several Regimental Associations. He was a proud Cape Bretoner, volunteered in many ways in support of the Baptist Church community, and loved family genealogy and gardening. Thanks to the staff at Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre and Prince of Wales Manor for their care in his last years.

The family will receive friends at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa), on Saturday, September 30th, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Memorial Service in Beechwood’s Sacred Space at 2:00 p.m. Interment, in the National Military Cemetery located at Beechwood Cemetery, followed by a Reception. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Dementia Society (formerly Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County), or First Baptist Church, 140 Laurier Avenue West, would be appreciated.

Sorry to learn of Uncle Vince's passing. As a child his visits with Aunt Ruth back home to Cape Breton and his recollections of his military service were visits that I looked forward to. He was one of my inspirations to join the military and I had the opportunith to visit some of the same places he did.
Those that knew him will miss him as he impacted the lives of friends and family alike.

We are so saddened to hear of uncle vince passing. So many fond memories of his and aunt Ruth's visits home to Cape breton and then tge many trips on his own . The countless hours of his slides and the many stories they had to share. They will forever be treasured. Love Mary and family

Aunt Ruth, Bill and Martha, Fred and Brenda, I was so sorry to hear of Uncle Vince's death. He and Aunt Ruth took me under their wing when I was posted to Ottawa, I was so thankful to have family close by when leaving home for the first time. I have some wonderful memories of him, as I'm sure you all do. Hopefully you'll be able to draw strength from your memories to help you through your loss. Mom also sends her deepest condolences.
