In Celebration of

David William Poirier

September 11, 1940 -  February 2, 2019

It is with profound sadness that we announce Dave’s passing on February, 2nd 2019, in Ottawa. Peacefully, with family by his side, he left this world to join his late brother John and Uncle Tim. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends: wife Lori of 47 years, son David, daughters Kerry Carroll (George) and Michelle Day (Dan), grandchildren Kyle, Evan, Taylor, and Andrew, his adoring sisters Margo and Julia, sister-in-law Valerie and friends – in particular, his best bud Larry Lynch. His dedicated public service career spanned 30 years, and included time in the RCN, RCAF and Foreign Affairs. That twinkle in his eye, Irish wit, and mischievous grin will live on forever in the memories of those who were lucky enough to have known him. The family wish to thank the entire dedicated team at TOH Cancer Centre and 5 East who supported Dave as he fought his battle and gave it ‘the old college try". Friends and Family are invited to visit at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery & Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 1:00 PM until the time of a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Most sincere condolences to all family and friends.
We can proudly tip a glass of our finest ale in memory of a true friend, a purveyor of incredible wit and humor, of a person who knew the true meaning of love and loyalty, and of someone who would take the time to not only know you, but shed just the right amount of wisdom upon you to, at the very least, to make your day better.
"May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face. And may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.”
Thank you for the memories and for being our friend.
