It is with great sadness the we announce the passing of William Smith on Friday May 5, 2017 at the age of 84. Widower of his beloved wife Mariette (née Mantha). Loving Father to Franklin (Brigitte) and Deborah Ward (Kim Wicker). Proud grandfather of Benjamin, Jenna and Serina. Predeceased by his brothers Allan and Franklin and his sister Dorothy. Bill will be dearly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, countless friends, including regimental veterans, sisters and brothers-in-arms of The Royal Canadian Dragoons and the Canadian Forces.

Friends and Family are invited to visit onTuesday May 16th after 10 a.m. at Beechwood Cemetery, Funeral and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Ave. (east of Vanier Parkway). Memorial Service will be held in the Sacred Space at 11a.m. followed by interment at the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces. Friends and family are invited to a reception following the internment.

In memoriam donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or the Alzheimer Society will be appreciated.

We've been next door neighbours to Bill and Mariette for the last 34 years. Great friends who will be sadly missed. From a crabfat to a grunt - Stand easy soldier, you have served us well.

I will miss him, he was a brother from the Armoured Corps, he thought me alot , he had a great knowledge and enjoyed sharing it.

Very saddened to learn of Bill's passing. I always looked forward to sharing a few words with him and news from the Armoured nets. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
