William "Bill" Johnston Stewart

S/S/Maj RCMP (Retired)
July 15, 1929 – July 24, 2017

Passed away peacefully at St. Patrick’s Home in Ottawa on July 24, 2017 at the age of 88. Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Muriel (Webster). He was the proud father of Louise, Susan (Dan) Pearce, Allan (Heather), and Maureen (Rick) VanSickle; proud grandfather of Ryan, Caryn, Kayleigh, Andrew, Christopher, Jamie, Tabria and Tynan; and great-grandchildren Madelyn, Andrew and Aleana. Survived by sister-in-law Joan (Robert) Stewart. Bill is predeceased by his daughter Sandra (Rick) Foyston, his brothers Vernon and Robert, and his sister-in-law Audrey (Bazil) Underwood. Bill landed his “dream job” with the RCMP at the age of 17 and went on to enjoy a distinguished career that spanned 24 years. Following early postings to Halifax, Campbell River and Chilliwack, in 1959 he was posted to ‘B’ Branch in Ottawa, where he spent the remainder of his career. After retiring in 1971, Bill had a second career with the Eastern Region Security Section of Ontario Hydro. He fully retired in 1990. A private family Graveside Service will be held at a later date in the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery located at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa). A special thanks to the staff of the Donegal wing of St. Patrick’s Home, who took such good care of Bill over the past two years. Memorial donations can be made to the Ottawa Humane Society or St. Patrick’s Home of Ottawa Foundation. Messages of condolence may be left at www.beechwoodottawa.ca
