ARNOLD, T. Christie
MA Sc, MBA, NDC, PEng, FEIC
WWII Veteran – Engine Room Artificer
PO (Retired) - RCNVR
1926 – 2016
Peacefully surrounded by family on Monday April 18, 2016 in his 90th year. Beloved husband of Louise (née Proulx). Loving father of John, Daniel, Marc (Valerie) and David (Beth). Proud “Grand-papa” of 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Predeceased by his sister Ruth.

Christie grew up in Toronto and Bermuda. With the support of Ridley College, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 17 and served on HMS Sheffield from 1943 – 1946. His love of the Navy was with him throughout his life. He went on to graduate from the University of Toronto in 1950, Western University in 1953 and to marry his soulmate Louise in Chicoutimi in 1954.

He had a rewarding career and used his engineering and business talents with such organizations as Alcan, Canron, Studebaker-Worthington, Government of Canada, Wilson Machine, and Canadian British Consultants. His work allowed him to travel extensively throughout the world. Additionally, he was the Executive Director for The Engineering Institute of Canada, the Canadian Society for Electrical & Computer Engineering, and The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering.

Christie was involved on a volunteer basis with a number of organizations including Ottawa-Carleton Housing, Canadian Executive Service Organization, and Ashbury College.

Family was very important to him, and he was a strong believer in access to education. His 1950 graduation year book from the University of Toronto stated that for the future, he wanted to enjoy life. That he did, particularly at his much loved cottage in the Gatineau Hills. He will be missed.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering in the Hall of Colours of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave. (east of Vanier Parkway) on Thursday April 28 commencing at 1 pm. Words of remembrance will be delivered from 2 pm. A private family interment with military honours will be held at the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Ashbury College for the T.C. Arnold Endowment Fund for Science (attention Jannine Atkinson, Ashbury College, 362 Mariposa Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario K1M 0T3).
