BERTELMANN (nee Dockstader), Ruth
January 22, 1936 –July 14, 2018
Ruth passed away peacefully after a happy life filled with love and joy, to be reunited with her devoted husband Fred, who passed in 2016. Ruth was born in London, Ontario to parents Wilfred & Jean Dockstader. After a whirlwind courtship, she married her young RCAF man in 1959. They raised their family together at various postings in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and Germany. She was a teacher who had the fulfilling role teaching special-ed students. After retiring in Ottawa, Ruth was socially active with Gloucester Seniors Centre, Eastern Star, bridge clubs, book clubs, and numerous choirs. Her many pleasures included: music, singing, word and dice games, knitting, reading, travel, and most of all, time with family and friends. She will be remembered for her warm and welcoming style. Left to cherish her memories are children: Sheila (Lyall Hunt), Kari (Don VanHerk), Paul (Sheila Thompson); grand-children: Melanie (Murray), Jeffrey (Shannon), Brian (Suzanne), Michelle (Mike), Tegan, Tanner; twelve great-grandchildren; siblings: Bob (Marybelle), Paul (Louise), Donna (Garry Felton); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The life of this wonderful woman will be celebrated at Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave., on Monday July 23 at 10am, with high-tea reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to your favourite charity would be appreciated.
