In Celebration of

Richard Henry Morton Cathcart

On Monday, March 12, 2018, Richard Henry Morton Cathcart, age 78, beloved husband of Helen (nee Pullen), son of the late Colonel and Mrs. Harold Cathcart, predeceased by brother Major Christopher Cathcart (Susan McLaren, 2014), brother of Victoria (Grant Leslie) and Bridget (Doug Smith).

Proud father of David (Jenni), Michael (Amy), and Carolyn (David), and delighted grandfather of Lily, Evan and Emma. Also survived by his many nieces and nephews, from Halifax to Victoria. Richard cared very deeply for his extended family.

As a federal public servant, Richard had a varied career, encompassing the Trade Commissioner Service (with postings in Jamaica and Lebanon), the market development group of the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce, Treasury Board Secretariat, Grains Group and Agriculture Canada. A post-retirement career of consulting put his organizational skills to good use.

Richard adored meeting people from every walk of life. Running, biking and skiing through Gatineau Park gave him enormous pleasure. He would often say “Pink’s Lake Hill: I’ve run that hill, I’ve skied that hill, I’ve biked that hill.”

He was an active contributor to his country, his church and his community, and an enthusiastic storyteller.

Thank you to the caring nurses at Bayshore Home Health, especially Jen Baker, the dedicated volunteers at May Court Hospice, the incomparable staff at The Ottawa Hospital - Civic Campus and the Ottawa Heart Institute and Dr. Libni Eapen of the Irving Greenberg Family Cancer Centre.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 27th at 10:00am at St Margaret Mary’s Church at 7 Fairbairn St in Old Ottawa South followed by a reception in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the May Court Hospice (114 Cameron Ave, Ottawa, ON, K1S 0X1 or hospicecareottawa.ca) would be greatly appreciated.

Richard fought a long battle with an amazing partner, Helen, family and friends by his side who provided much strength. I know Richard will enjoy telling his many stories to a new audience he will now have. God Bless. xoxo
