In Celebration of
Patricia "P.J." Whitehead
August 12, 1935 - January 12, 2018
WHITEHEAD, Patricia Jane (née Thicke), August 12th, 1935 - January 12th, 2018. It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia “Pat” Whitehead announces her passing at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on January 12th. Pat is survived by her loving husband, James Whitehead. Beloved mother of Jerome Jeffrey (Jayne Barlow) and Scott Jeffrey (Sukyang). Predeceased by her brother, Robert Raymond “Bob” Thicke (Donna). She will be missed by her grandchildren, Isabelle, Alexander and Jul-Lyn, nephews, Robert and Kelly, and cousin Florence Millar.
Patricia attended Glebe Collegiate Institute graduating with honours in 1952 and went on to achieve a B.A. from Carleton University majoring in psychology. The arts were always a focus in Pat’s life. One of her earliest artistic endeavours was the performance group “Mostly Marionettes” which she founded along with dear friends Lois Saunders and Sue Williams. The group performed for the benefit of many charities and began for Pat a life long commitment to community and those in need. Her gentle and creative soul will be missed by all who knew her.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the many friends and family who have provided ongoing support over the past eight years. We wish to extend a very special thanks to the Hearts in Tune program, led by Nigel Harris, as well as to Dr. David Kalin and to her case manager at CCAC. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Day Away Program at Abbotsford House and to the medical staff at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital, who made Pat’s final days comfortable, allowing her to pass with dignity and care. Pat’s generosity extended to many charities, including her long service to the May Court Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be sent to a charity of your choice. A celebration of Patricia's life will take place at her family home, on Sunday, February 11 from 2:00-4:00pm.
