In Celebration of

Nicolò Tocchi

November 6, 1923 -  April 15, 2018

Nick passed away Sunday April 15, 2018 – beloved husband of Monika (née Dietler), proud father of Silvano (Catherine Lambert), adored NonnoNick of grandchildren Marco and Mia, dear brother of Attilia and the late Maria, and cherished by his Swiss in-laws. We will sorely miss his steadfast devotion to his immediate family; his gentleness with a keen sense of humour; and the hospitality he extended to friends and relatives.

Nick was born on an island in the Adriatic Sea where his love of sailing and wide-open spaces took shape. Forced to flee to Venice in 1944, he made his way to Canada in 1951, working on Northern Ontario railroads and even in the Yukon. His unassuming manner belied his adventurous past. He married Monika in 1966, raised his family, and managed the office of a construction firm in Ottawa. Nothing made him happier than spending time at the cottage, teasing the neighbourhood children, or discussing sports and politics.

We are very grateful for the compassionate care he received at the Montfort and Bruyère Hospitals.

A memorial service celebrating his life will take place in the chapel at Beechwood Cemetery (280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa) Thursday April 26, 2018 at 2:00 PM. The service will be preceded by a visitation beginning at 1:00 PM and followed by a reception.

In memoriam donations to St. David and St. Martin Presbyterian Church (www.thesaints.ca) or Easter Seals Ontario (www.easterseals.org) would be appreciated.

On different occasions we had the pleasure to meet Nick, a gentlemen of the old school. We stayed ot their house, Apple Tree Lane, during a trip to Canada and were invited in their lovely cottage too. Eveb Susi's sister Ruth was guest in her house.
