In Celebration of

Nancy Cooke

July 23, 1963 -  August 5, 2018

Surrounded by family, Nancy peacefully passed away at home after two and a half years living with brain cancer. Nancy, aged 55, beloved wife of Mark Cooke, mother of Kristen, Ivan, and Colin, daughter of Barbara Langdon, sister of Susan Fields. Predeceased by her father Doug. She was a cherished daughter-in-law of Derek and Jean Cooke, and sister-in-law of Justyna (Bob), Mike (Diane), Derek (Julie) and Mari (John), as well as a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was a lifelong teacher, bringing the joy and accomplishment of music to her students, while providing mentorship and guidance to all that surrounded her. She enjoyed nature through her summertime cottage trips and travels throughout the world. Nancy lives on through her impact on the many people she shaped throughout her life.

We are eternally grateful for the guidance and care of the medical team at the Ottawa Hospital, led by Dr. Garth Nicholas, as well as the caregivers who supported Nancy throughout her journey.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa), on Sunday, August 12, 2018 for a visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of Memorial Service in Beechwood's Sacred Space at 11:00 a.m. Interment to take place following a Reception at Bolingbroke Cemetery at 5:00 p.m. Donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation or OrKidstra Ottawa.

Nancy was a very special friend. One who would provide me with strength, hope, courage, loyalty and never ending support. Nancy’s ability to put one foot in front of the other showed me what it is to be a true warrior. Nancy touched many lives and gave her students the gift of music. Her memory is carried on in the children she taught. The memories I have, advice she gave and the time we spent together will always be held close to my heart. Her life was cut much too short but the lives she touched are far much bigger than the years she was given. Even though she has left a pool of tears, her memory moves forward in the lessons she taught me and by which I live. I know to live everyday with more passion, more determination, and more compassion because that's what she would have wanted. I don't know how to put a price on friendship. I'm not even sure how you can assess the size of its meaning, only your heart truly knows and our friendship was far too special for words. Love you Nancy!
