I was saddened to see Merilyn's obituary in the Citizen yesterday. We were school chums at the Academy in Lunenburg NS during the 40s and 50s. Although we lost touch over the years, I still have fond memories of fun times at Camp Mush-a-Mush, bicycle tours around various parts of Nova Scotia as well as exploring the highways and byways of Lunenburg County together.
My sincerest condolences to the family ... and farewell, my friend.

Merilyn and I became "back door neighbours" in 1965 when our two Kristas were just two years old. We lived in an open neighbourhood with no fences where kids could roam from yard to yard and the parents understood that if there were guests, the kids would be sent home with no hard feelings.
Merilyn's husband, Bob, was an inventor who designed and built a marvelous (styrofoam) swimming pool which we neighbours helped put together and enjoyed for many years.
There are few people who have gone through life with as many constant friends and supporters as Merilyn. At home she had Bob who obviously adored her and continued to support her and Krista even after their marriage broke up. Another great friend and supporter was Gwen who provided day care for Krista while Merilyn worked as a social worker. Another social worker and Merilyn's main supporter was
Marg who remained a life-long friend.
Merilyn was my prime example of a female Leo. She never went out without makeup. For someone who was vertically challenged, her fashion choices and colours were always just right
Each of us who knew Merilyn now have a hole in our lives.
Miss you, beautiful lady!

Marilyn is mom to my best childhood friend. She hosted so many sleepovers and pool parties I felt the Hendrys had adopted me and Krista became my sister. I remember well all the after school snacks and crepe Suzettes we enjoyed. I am grateful Marilyn and Bob forgave the many messy parties we enjoyed in their home. Love to all your family from Krista Jane
