In Celebration of

Mary Marjorie Hutchison

September 11, 1921 -  March 11, 2017

Mary Marjorie "MM" Hutchison (nee Blair)

In Ottawa on March 11, after a short illness.

Predeceased by her husband Jack Hutchison, her parents Andrew and Margaret Blair and by her 5 siblings, Elizabeth (John Machado/John Calhoun), Andrew (Audrey Blakney), Charlie (Jocelyn White), John (Diana Cowan) and Donald. Loving and much loved mother of Sheila Leamen, John (Sally) and Joan Lenczner (Alan). She will be greatly missed by her 7 grandchildren and their partners Andrea Lenczner (Blair Levinsky), Blair Leamen (Tanya Carter), Erica Lenczner (Steve Greenidge), Gillian Wells (Ira), Elizabeth Hutchison (Rob Shipcott), Matthew Lenczner (Bryony Marshall) and Christopher Hutchison (Sara Gauthier). MM also delighted in her 13 great grandchildren who helped celebrate her 95th birthday in September of last year.

MM was born and raised in Ottawa, she graduated from the University of Toronto and then met her dashing young RAF Officer in Montreal during the war. After the war they settled in Montreal and then Hudson Heights while Jack worked for ICAO. They had postings in Mexico City and Paris and traveled the world, retiring to Ottawa in 1976. She loved her many summers (over 90) at Lake Bernard.

MM's grandchildren especially appreciated their Granny's firm and strongly expressed views on almost everything, in particular modern technology (although she was not averse to getting them to Google for the words of an old song or a favourite hymn) and in the decline in the use of “correct” grammar.
For the last 9 years of her life MM lived at the Rockcliffe Retirement Residence where she took great pleasure in the company of the other residents and in the extremely helpful and caring staff for whom her family are very grateful.

A celebration of MM's life will be held at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Friday, March 31st at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.

Hello Sheila, Johnny, and Joanie

our heartfelt condolences from me and my brother Andrew

The lively atmosphere at the Hudson Heights Place is what sticks most strongly in my mind. The era of Richard Green as Robin Hood on the telly, the wonderful gardens, the airy house.. And a house of strong personalities ! …

In recent years I came into contact with your mother at an apartment of hers on Rideau Terrace ( I think )
and at the Lenczner home

Best love to all of you

End of a wonderful era!

My sincere sympathy to John, Sally, and all the family. My father was also born in 1921 and, sadly, we lost him ten years ago. I am happy for you that you were blessed to have your mother with you well into her nineties. What a beautiful woman.

Hi John, Sheila and Joan,

I've been thinking of you all, and your Mom and many happy days we were so lucky to share in Hudson. Your Mom prompted thoughts of Mrs. Petersson too, I believe they were good friends. I send my very kindest regards. Jane
