Mary Dalzell

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Kathleen Dalzell announces her passing on January 15, 2018 in Ottawa, Ontario at the age of 77 (nee McManus. Mary died peacefully in her home.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years James R. Dalzell and her children Michael (Laurie) of North Vancouver and Karen (Brendan) of New York City, her siblings Martha Landry and Blaise McManus of Nova Scotia, and her grandchildren Daela and Ainslee Dalzell, and Oona and Zoƫ Dalzell-Sexton. She is preceded in death by her sister Betty-Ann Murphy and her brother Terry McManus.
Mary was born on April 20, 1940 in Lismore, Nova Scotia to Margaret and Hugh. She attended high school in Antigonish, NS and took courses at St. Francis Xavier University. While living in Antigonish she worked for the NS Power Commission. She married James R. Dalzell in Edmonton, Alberta in 1963. They moved to Fredericton, NB in 1965 she began working for the Maritime Union Study Group. She moved to Ottawa with her husband Jim in 1971 where she held various positions in the Federal Public Service culminating in the Order and Councils section of the Privy Council Office where she worked for many years.
Upon retirement from the Public Service she was active in music taking piano and vocal lessons and signing with the Voices in Harmony choral group. Mary enjoyed a happy musical career studying and singing choral music which brought her great joy and great friendships for over 20 years.
Mary was a long-standing member of the Annunciation of the Lord Parish in Beacon Hill North and at one time sang in their choir.
A Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services A Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa) from 2-5pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at Annunciation of the Lord Roman Catholic church, 2414 Ogilivie Road, Gloucester on Monday January 22nd at 11am followed by a reception.
