In Celebration of

Mairi Ruth Edge

Mairi Ruth (MacKinnon) Edge passed away on March 21, 2017 at the Edinburgh Retirement Residence in Ottawa in her 87th year. Mairi was born in Montreal on June 28, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Alistair and Ruth MacKinnon and attended McGill University graduating with a Bachelor of Science with honours. In later years, she completed coursework at Carleton University to teach English as a second language (and being a true Scot, to gain free access to the university swimming pool). Her work as an ESL teacher, a tax analyst for H&R Block and as a board member for TELSI allowed her to use her intellect in order to help others and truly made her happy. She was a loyal and active friend who loved to travel and was a frequent companion to her brother Stuart (2004) for many of their trips to Europe. She was a devoted wife of the late William (2011) and dear mother of Thomas Edge (Sogol Zand) of Toronto, Cynthia Phillips (Michael) of Munich, Germany and Diana Dowling (Joseph) of Riverside, USA. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren Alexander, Isabelle, Jacqueline, Charlotte, Brian, Miles, Victoria and Joseph. Her intelligence, warm smile, iron will, quick wit, compassion and ability to outswim, outwalk, outbike and outread her friends and family will be sorely missed. There will be a Celebration of her Life at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 2 p.m. She will be buried alongside her husband at Beechwood Cemetery, in Ottawa, in a private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the charity of your choice.

Cynthia, Tom & Diana,

Just saw your Mother's obituary in the paper and wanted to convey my condolences on your loss. It's the end of an era as our parents pass away. Your Mother was always welcoming and engaging which I appreciated. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mairi's friendship was a joy. We were neighbours twice as we came and went. Our time together covered several of life's passages. Good Heath, active times, birth of grandchildren, slowing down. Always conversation was stimulating, fun and informative. Roy shared many of Bills Naval tales and we loved having them just across the street. Condolences to family. Marianne and Roy,Wood

I am so sorry to hear the news of your mom. A dear friend for years. We grew up together on Grosvenor Avenue in Westmount, only parted by a driveway. I am lucky to have so many great memories of a very dear friend. My love and deepest sympathies to you and your families.
