In Celebration of

Lawrence Edward Davies

August 17, 1931 -  December 13, 2017

Passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital with his family by his side. Survived by his loving wife Betty, as well as his children Catherine Ferrarotto (Carm), Janet Parent (Gary De Jong), Paul (Carol), and Beverly Charette (David). He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Jennifer (Andrew Cameron) and Michael Merklinger, Rachel Ferrarotto (Laura King) and Stephanie (Nathan Sonnenberg), Sean (Sheena) and Jessica Davies, and Adam and Trevor Charette) and his great grandchildren (Lily and Gavin Cameron, Claire and Brodie Sonnenberg, and Isla Davies). He leaves behind his dear sister Nora Findlay, two brothers Percy and Fred, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Larry was born the youngest of 8 children in Halifax Nova Scotia. He obtained his Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary's University (despite being a star athlete) and went on to become a Certified Management Accountant and Professional Administrator. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps, both Regular and Militia, from 1950 until 1955 and 1965 respectively. After having spent time working at CN Railway in Montreal, he returned to public service in 1965 working at Manpower and Immigration, and finally joining the Department of National Defence in 1973. He was the Assistant Deputy Minister (Finance) from 1977 - 1989, at which time he was selected to represent Canada at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium as Assistant Secretary General for Infrastructure, Logistics, and Civil Emergency Planning. Upon his return to Canada in 1991, Lawrence chose to retire, but continued through his volunteer work with the Canadian Battle of Normandy Foundation to demonstrate his commitment to his Country and its veterans. Larry was an avid golfer and long time member of Hylands Golf Club. He tried desperately to achieve par, but sometimes things just don't work out.

A Visitation will be held at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetary and Cremation Servicies in Ottawa on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11am. The Memorial Service will begin at 12 noon, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Ottawa Humane Society, the Ottawa Mission, or the Canadian Battlefields Foundation.

Aunt Betty, Cathy, Janet, Bev and Paul and Families. My thoughts are with you guys at this really difficult time. Christmas always seems to make these situations seem harder but you know Uncle Laurie would want you to keep up the Christmas spirit for your family's. There must be some comfort in knowing that he is not lingering and suffering. That was not his style. He was up and at it! I have a lot of good memories from years gone by about time spent with him and Betty. God bless all of you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Always enjoyed visiting him in Ottawa to hear about his golfing and trips to the Florida panhandle. My parents, Fred and Anne, very much enjoyed their time with Uncle Laurie and Aunt Betty while Laurie was stationed in Belgium.
