In Celebration of

John "Big Daddy J." Welsh

After a courageous battle against a rare lung disorder at the age of 51. Beloved son of Pearl O’Neil and the late Ernest Welsh. Cherished brother to Steve. Dearest uncle to Brook (Alan Tyo), Samantha and adoring great-uncle to Carson.

John will be fondly remembered by his close associates and friends; Ricky Emmerson, Brian DesChamps. He also leaves countless close friends and acquaintances from the LGBTQ2 Community and his co-workers and colleagues at Central Precast.

A longtime resident of Lowertown and a caring responsible former club/bar co-owner by night, John quickly became well known and respected in the GLTBQ2 Community. To his peers, he was affectionately known as “Big Daddy J.” and he wore the nickname well, his grizzly bear-like stature combined with his calm caring father-like demeanor made him commendably memorable.

A strong and true gentleman, always ready and willing to help his friends and even strangers in need. Amongst countless good deeds, he once singlehandedly held captive an armed bank robber for several minutes while bystanders called for police reinforcements.

A celebration of John’s Life will be held on Wednesday October 3, 2018 at Swizzles Bar & Grill, 246 Queen Street, Ottawa, starting at 7 p.m.

In memory of John, donations may be made to the Lung Association. (www.lungontario.ca)

Right from the time we'd met, back in early 1993, we became instant friends at first sight and a tremendous respect for one another had been continually maintained throughout all the years that followed. Many great times, incredible laughs and work experiences were just a few of the memorable things we'd shared, and for that I will always be grateful. Having had the good fortune of crossing paths with you was truly a blessing, and I'm certain our paths will cross again in the hereafter. Until then. on this dimension, you will be greatly missed my friend.

With love and respect, always,
Karldon Okruta
