In Celebration of

Joan Isabel Lamar

November 17, 1931 -  April 18, 2017

LAMAR, Joan Isabel (nee Cressey)
November 17, 1931 – April 18, 2017

In loving memory of dearly loved Joan (Mom and Granny) who passed away at the age of 85 at the Glebe Centre in Ottawa. Born in North Bay, Joan grew up on the shores of Lake Nipissing, one of her favourite places. Joan was the only child of Henry and Charlotte Cressey who Joan often said spoiled her greatly. Joan loved children and after high school went to Toronto for her teacher’s degree. After graduating, Joan taught at the air force base in North Bay before moving to Ottawa to teach kindergarten at Woodroffe Public School. Joan met Fred, a dashing bachelor and lawyer, and they were soon married, welcoming two beautiful children, Anne and Peter. Joan was warm, loving, generous of spirit and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family and friends. She loved to laugh and was eternally grateful for life’s blessings. Joan is deeply missed by her children Anne (Joe Truglia) and Peter (Laura). Adored by her grandchildren, Jacob, Holly, Maddy and Evan, we all saw true joy in her eyes as she held each one for the first time. Joan is predeceased by Fred after 36 years of marriage and they will now be together again. Family and friends are invited to visit Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue (East of Vanier Parkway), Friday May 12, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday May 13, 2017 from 9 a.m. until time of the Memorial Service at 9:30 in the Sacred Space. The family would like to thank the staff at the Glebe Centre for their kindness and care. In memory of Joan, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada and CHEO. Tributes may be sent via www.beechwoodottawa.ca

Dear Anne and Joe,
My deepest condolences on the loss of your mother. There are no words that can ease the pain of your loss but I wanted to let you know that you have all been in my thoughts. I remember Joan as being a very classy lady, friendly and welcoming. You can take some comfort in all the memories that you have of her and it will be the memories and the stories of her life and your time together that will sustain you through the difficult moments as you grieve the loss of your mother.
