In Celebration of

Jean and George Spear

September 15, 2017

NOW TOGETHER FOREVER

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of both Jean (94) and George (97) Spear on Friday, September 15. They died peacefully within a few hours of each other, neither ever knowing that the other was gone. It was the perfect ending to a beautiful life-long love affair. Theirs was a fairy tale romance from their first dance during the war in 1941 to a recent happy celebration of their 75th wedding anniversary in the house that George built. Jean and George showed how to live the best kind of life with a deep love and respect for each other and a genuine interest and generosity of spirit towards all those who shared their lives. They were loved and cherished by many. No one will miss them more than their children, Heather and Ian (Jane), their beloved grandchildren, Lucas (Kelly), Phillip, James (Holly) and Charles and their great grandchildren, Nicole, Maria, Oliver and Gabe.

The Spear Family will be forever grateful to the wonderful team of loving caregivers lead by Angie and Imelda, Steve and the PSW’s from Carefor, Dr. Cross and the many others who were dedicated to the care, comfort and safety of Jean and George, keeping them at home until the end. They were surrounded by the very best every day.

There will be a private family service with Military Honours at Beechwood Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family for a joyous celebration of the lives of these two extraordinary people on Friday, October 13 at the Britannia Yacht Club, 2777 Cassels St. Ottawa, from 3 to 5 p.m. Pictures of special memories shared with Jean and George and written tributes are most welcome. We hope friends will join us in wearing something red to remember the great love Jean and George had for each other.

Here’s to you, Jean and George, Mom and Dad, Nan and Grandad, Grandfather and GG, and most memorable friends. Thank you for enriching our lives with yours. will never be forgotten.

I worked with George from 1972 t0 1975 with Marine Sciences. He was clearly the best boss I ever had. He had most of the attributes one could hope for in a superior. He was funny, intelligent, sympathetic and I am sure, that if called upon to do so, he could have herded cats. We were blessed, those of us who got to know George.
