In Celebration of

James Patterson

February 5, 1940 -  June 1, 2018

Jim passed away peacefully in hospital on June 1st, 2018 at the age of 78 years. He leaves behind his loving wife June (nee Roberts), his cherished daughter Heather, his son-in-law Dan (Caputo), and his two precious granddaughters Sadie and Nora who brought him so much joy. He is survived by three brothers, William of Richmond BC; Robert (the late Donna) of N. Hollywood CA; Wayne (Sandi) of London ON as well as a sister, Marjorie (the late Norman) of New Hamburg ON. He was born in London ON - the fifth of seven children of Raymond Patterson and Olive (nee Conway) and was pre-deceased by his parents, his sister Marilyn (the late Bernard), his brother John "Jack" (the late Carol) and two nieces, Janice and Rebecca. Jim joined the RCAF in 1958. He was stationed at Uplands, Bagotville, and then proceeded on a yearlong UN tour of duty at 115 Air Transport Unit in El Arish, Egypt. He spent four years in Germany at 4 (F) Wing Baden Soellingen, returning once again to Uplands. In 1972, he turned in his hangar line tool box and became a Topographical Surveyor at Mapping and Charting Establishment (MCE) - a career move he never regretted. Retiring in 1995, his next career was golf- he was a long time member of Hylands Golf Club. Jim was a natural athlete who excelled at all sports, especially water sports and springboard diving. As an "A" class squash player, he took great pleasure in thrashing the young officers at MCE. He loved chess, bridge, genealogy, Christmas, and our pets but most of all he loved and cherished his family. We will miss that quick wit and his most generous heart. Friends and family are invited to a Visitation on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa) from 7-9 pm. The family will also receive condolences at Beechwood on Saturday. June 9, 2018 between 10-11 am just prior to the start of a Memorial Service. The ashes will be buried in the National Military Cemetery at Beechwood following the Service. A reception will follow. If considering a donation, please give to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Jim’s favourite charity, CHEO.
