In celebration of Ian McDavid Cooper (RCMP S/Sgt retired) - 18 April 1937 - 28 Jan 2017. Ian passed away peacefully at the Civic Hospital at the age of 79 years after a lengthy illness.
Born in Campbellton, NB on 18 April 1937, Ian is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Helaine, daughter Kim (Paul Keogh), son David (Joanna), and grandchildren (Kaitlyn, Dillon, and Anika).
Ian was a proud member of the RCMP, serving from 1956-1994 in various detachments across BC (18 years), and at RCMP HQ in Ottawa until retirement. He retired as a Staff Sergeant and immediately joined the RCMP Vets Association, further serving until the present on the Association Executive. He was a tireless volunteer. He recently earned the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteerism from the Governor General and many other service awards throughout his life including the Queen's Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals. He was a proud husband, father and grandfather, and a tireless advocate for police across Canada, always at every Police Memorial, funeral, or parade.
Friends and family are invited to attend Visitation at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services 280 Beechwood Ave (east of Vanier Parkway), Ottawa, Ontario on Friday, February 3rd from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held in Beechwood's Sacred Space on Saturday, February 4th at 11:00 am.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Civic hospital with special thanks to the Hemodialysis Unit for their caring and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ian to the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
