BOEHMER, Hilda
Hilda Amelia Boehmer (nee Weckwerth) passed away peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2016 in her 104th year. Born and raised in Eganville, ON she started her working career at Bell Canada in Ottawa where she met John Mathesius. Their marriage, in 1932, was blessed with the birth of two children: Ellen and Ted. Seven years later grief struck with the sudden death of her husband. Hilda carried on as a single parent raising her children and paying for a home. In 1965, Hilda found love again through her marriage to Leonard Boehmer. Retiring as a Bell Pioneer, she enjoyed a enriched family life for 11 years. In 1976 Len passed away and Hilda worked through her grief with the support of family and friends at St John Lutheran Church and the community of New Edinburgh. Hilda was a diligent volunteer at her church and at Island Lodge for over 30 years receiving the Community Builder Award from United Way. Five years later she left her home and moved into the Garry Armstrong Home where she was well cared for. Special thanks go to the 5th floor staff for their loving care. She leaves to mourn her dedicated children and daughter-in-law; her loving granddaughter Heidi and great granddaughter Jordyn; her extended family at St John Lutheran and in Eganville.
