Helen (Thompson) Groeneweg passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the Ottawa General Hospital with her loving husband of 59 years by her side. Cherished wife of Bastiaan (Bas) Groeneweg. Adored mother and mother-in-law of Kathy and Vincent Cauchon and Judith and Petr Srna. Dear and proud grandmother of Garrigue and Bram Srna, and Philippe, Patrick, and Amanda Cauchon. Sister and sister-in-law of the late Griffin Brady Thompson and Joan (Peberty) Thompson. Daughter of the late George Franklin and Kathleen (Drennan) Thompson. Helen will be fondly remembered by her many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, her nieces and nephews, and her many friends. For someone with limited vision, Helen had a wonderful outlook on life. She enjoyed every moment life had to offer and turned every event into magic. She loved music, travel, family and friends, and most of all, a good laugh and great story. The family is eternally grateful to the caring doctors, nurses, and staff of the ICU and the 8th floor west at the General Hospital. A celebration of life will be held at Rideau Park United Church, 2203 Alta Vista Drive, on Saturday, March 23. Visitation at 10:00 am; service 11:00 followed by a reception.
