LA CHAPELLE, Helen A. (nee Black) (RN)
1918-2017
It is with profound sadness and deepest gratitude that I announce the departure of Helen Agnes Black-La Chapelle. My beautiful, elegant, kind and loving mother left peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Saturday, June 17, 2017. Although Helen was living into her 100th year with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare neurological, incurable, terminal Parkinson- based illness similar to ALS, she managed to beat the PSP odds by living a longer life with more controlled symptoms in the comfort of home. Helen came into this world as a New Year's gift. She was bright, appreciative of life and humour. She was health and forward thinking. After training for four years at the Bahamas General Hospital (renamed Princess Margaret Hospital), she was granted her registered nurse certification in 1940. Nina would like to express appreciation for the medical care provided by Dr. Neil J. Rogers, GP and his team at the Heart of Ottawa Clinic; Dr. Jill Rice and her team with the Regional Palliative Consultation Team at Bruyère Continuous Care; Dr. Alaa Rostum, Chair of the Division of Gastroenterology at the Ottawa Hospital; Dr. Sam Carson, dentist and friend, and Nathalie Franchomme, RD. CCAC case managers Celine Gauthier, Deana Johnson and Chantal Hebert; all the wonderful PSWs and nurses from Bayshore Home Health who visited regularly as well as the PSWs from Carefor Home Health, VHA and folks at White Cross Pharmacy and OMS. Helen, predeceased by husband Ross (Rosaire) La Chapelle, is survived by her children Nina (Ottawa) and Marc (Montreal), and her sister Gerri (Geraldine) Black, nieces Natie and Nickie Bennett, cousins Barbara Nico, and Captain Paul Aranha of Nassau, June Pelicanos of Freeport, Grand Bahamas. In Montreal, she leaves her relatives in the La Chapelle family, Charlotte Ann Henay and Elise Bennett; friends Kathleen Belitsky, Betty Reyes, Maurice and Cynthia Dunkley, Lise and Michael Mazzalongo, Anita and Bill Schlarb, her Tai Chi friends, and her Brothers and Sisters in the Church of Christ. The memorial service for Helen Agnes Black-La Chapelle will take place on Saturday, July 15 at 11 a.m., at the Church of Christ, 6259 Monk Bivd, Montreal, QC. C'est avec une profonde tristesse et énormément de gratitude que j'annonce le départ d’Helen Agnes Black LaChapelle. Ma douce, élégante, gentille et belle mère adorée m’a laissée paisiblement dans son sommeil le matin du samedi 17 juin 2017.

Bien que Helen vivait dans sa 100ème année avec la paralysie supranucléaire progressive (PSP), une maladie rare, neurologique, incurable et terminale à la base de Parkinson et similaire à la SLA, elle a réussi à battre le diagnostique de la PSP, en vivant plus longtemps, avec des symptômes et des conforts plus contrôlés à la maison.

Helen, pré-décédée par son mari Ross (Rosaire) La Chapelle, est survécue par ses enfants Nina (Ottawa) et Marc (Montréal), par sa soeur Gerri (Geraldine) Black, ses nièces Natie et Nickie Bennett, ses cousines Barbara Nico et le Capitaine Paul Aranha de Nassau et June Pelicanos de Freeport, Grand Bahamas. À Montréal, elle laisse les membres de la famille Lachapelle, Charlotte Ann Henay et Elise Bennett; ses amis Kathleen Belitsky, Betty Reyes, Maurice et Cynthia Dunkley, Lise et Michael Mazzalongo, Anita et Bill Schlarb, ses amis Tai Chi et ses frères et soeurs dans l'église du Christ.

Le service commémoratif aura lieu le samedi 15 juillet à 11h, à l'Église du Christ, 6259 boul. Monk, Montréal, QC.

Selon la volonté d'Helen, ses cendres seront inhumées dans la parcelle familiale Black/Aranha à Nassau, aux Bahamas.
