In Celebration of

Edna Bickford

August 18, 1950 -  June 26, 2018

After a courageous fight with ALS, and while at home surrounded by family, Edna peacefully gained her wings. She was always a strong woman, loving wife, caring mother, incredible Nana and true friend. Her independent, fierce strength and bravery will continue to be an inspiration to all of us. She held nothing back in life and was filled with love, smiles and laughter. Edna always provided an unending love for her family and friends. She had a zest for life that rubbed off on all those she met. She will be greatly missed.

Edna leaves behind her loving husband of 47 years, Howard. She is survived by her son Douglas, daughter in law Gina, her son Kevin, daughter in law Fleur, and her grandchildren Liam, Ella, Sam and Abigail. She is predeceased by her father Edward Gardner and is survived by her mother Amelia Gardner, and her sisters Louise Hiscock, Amy Smith and Irene Young. She was fully loved by her sisters and brothers through marriage Bernice, Grace, Inez (deceased), Rennie, Olive, Ruth, Sherry, Linda, Wilfred, Clayton and Carl. She will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews.

The family also offers a heartfelt thanks to the many medical professionals who have provided extraordinary support to us and Edna throughout our journey. Lastly, thank you to all of our friends and family for the smiles, the laughter and the support you have provided to us and to Edna over the years.

Family and friends are invited to a Visitation on Saturday, June 30th, 2018 at Beechwood Funeral Home (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa) from 3-5pm, with a Funeral Service and Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the ALS Society of Canada in Edna’s memory.

Edna….we carry you forever in our hearts…

I first met Edna Bickford while on tour in Germany. She and Howard were fast friends and part or the group that met, had dinner, laughed and just enjoyed life. They were posted to Petawawa after Germany as we were. And the dinners and the good times continued. We stayed at their house when Maggie Daly Sikora Sears and Mike Sears married. She introduced me to Dirt Pie. It was at one of the get together dinners, and she brought dessert. She plopped a flower pot (with an artificial flower sticking out of it) on the table and promptly began sticking her finger into the pot to eat the 'dirt', I followed suit. It was just such a hoot. Edna Bickford, and l lost touch and we just hooked up on facebook last year. I am so glad that we did. I will miss you Edna Bickford. Bless you, and my condolences to family and friends who knew and loved you. Love you....Gill

Many years since I spoke to Edna and recently reconnected on Facebook. We worked together in Germany and I coached her sons in Hockey and got to know the family. Edna was truly a fun and happy person to be around. I was shocked and saddened to hear of her passing. My condolences go to Howard, Doug , Kevin and their families. Heaven gained an angel...
