Edith Liepa

October 26, 1927 -  July 12, 2017

LIEPA, Edith Gertrud (nee Schmidt)
October 26, 1927 - July 12, 2017
Passed away peacefully at home, age 89. Predeceased by her husband Egils; survived by children Peter (Desirée), Bob (Soon), Dagmar (Dan), and Ingrid; grandsons Jason and Rio. Born in 1927, Edith grew up in the small town of Thalheim in what would later become East Germany. After the war, she fled to West Germany, where she met and married Egils. In 1951 they immigrated to Canada where they went on to raise four children. She began painting in the 1960s as a hobby and, over the years, studied art with several institutions and well-known painters. This led to a successful career as an artist and photographer. She was also a dedicated volunteer, particularly in the arts community. A memorial service and reception will be held at Beechwood Cemetery on Saturday, September 9 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to a seniors support or palliative organization (owcs.ca, carefor.ca, bruyere.org) or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Her family wishes to thank the many caregivers that gave her comfort in her final days and weeks. Mom, you were greatly loved by your friends and family, and you will always be in our hearts and minds.
