Dr. Osman Philip Gialloreto

September 30, 1921 - December 12, 2017

On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, peacefully at the Ottawa Hospital. Dearly loved husband of 62 years to Sylvia (née La Roche). Beloved father of Louis (Marie), Patricia, and Robert. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Matthew and Megan.

Dr. Gialloreto will be remembered as one of the pioneers and educators of North American Cardiology. He was instrumental in the founding of Santa Cabrini Hospital, Villa Medica, The Heart Institute, as well as a member of the Cardiology team at the Montreal General Hospital.

Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at Ascension of Our Lord Church, 375 Kitchener Ave, Westmount, QC, Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 10 o’clock. For those who wish, memorial contributions to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, 401 Smyth Rd, Ottawa, ON, K1H 8L1, are appreciated.

Ma mère, Mme Jeannine Aubé fut sa permière patiente. Il avait étudié son dossier toute la nuit. Elle avait 21 ans. Elle nous a quitté voilà déjà 4 ans à l'âge de 82 ans. J'ai un très grand respect pour vous et vous avez largement contribué à la longévité de ma mère.... Sincères condoléances à toute la famille... Johane Aubé.....

J'ai connu le Dr. Gialloreto en 1956, quand il a pratiqué sur moi un cathétérisme cardiaque à l'Institut de Cardiologie et il était un membre important de l'équipe chirurgicale dirigée par le Dr Edouard Gagnon qui m'a opéré à coeur ouvert en utilisant un coeur - poumon artificiel le 3 juillet 1957, une première canadienne. Je l'ai revu il y a quatre ans et il était toujours aussi actif malgré son grand âge. Montréal doit beaucoup au Dr. Gialloreto; il a étroitement collaboré à la mise sur pied de l'Institut de Cardiologie, à la fondation de la Villa Medica et à la mise en opération de l'Hôpital Santa Cabrini. Cet homme était d'une grande humilité et d'un grand coeur. Son souvenir restera à jamais gravé dans ma mémoire.

Prof. Gialloreto was one of the closest friends to my father, who died several years ago. I actually regarded to him as a putative parent, despite the geographical distance. An eminent clinician, a genuine Christian, and an extraordinary man: my grief is equal to my gratitude. His memory will abide my heart forever.
