Doris Nichol (Hobbs)

NICHOL (HOBBS), Doris Mary- It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved mother Doris Mary Nichol on February 23, 2016 at Granite Ridge Care Community, Stittsville. Doris passed away very peacefully surrounded by loving family members. Doris was born in Southampton, England and was the only daughter of George and Mary Hobbs and sister to brothers Roy (Verna), Gerald (Betty), Keith (Jean) and Geoffrey (Mary).She married Canadian soldier Harry Stanley Nichol and came to Canada as a British War Bride. She joined her husband Stan and his parents, Roy and Myrtle Nichol, and their children, Doris (Keith Rogers), Shirley (Ronald Brown), Roy (Tess), Joy (David Kranch) and Brian.Doris was accompanied to Canada by her daughters Marilyn (Steve Carleton), and Bernice (Richard Reid). She had two children born in Canada, Geoffrey (Sandra) and Shirley (James Thompson).She was fondly loved as 'Nanny' by her grandchildren, Kristine, Andrew (Agata), Jennifer (Grant), Janis, Adrienne (Finch), Mathew (Kathy), Paul (RĂ©nee), Alex, Roberta (Jesiah), and extended family Keith, Julie, Mathieu, and Anthony.She will be missed by her great grandchildren, Zoe, Greyson, Finn, Breck, Emilia, Naomi, Corbyn and Stan.Although Doris lost many memories due to the ravages of Alzheimer's disease, she retained her strength, dignity and amazing sense of humour throughout her life. God bless you. Rest in peace. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, (280, Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa). A Private family interment will be held in May in Beechwood Cemetery. Many thanks for the compassionate, gentle, loving care from the staff at Granite Ridge Care Community.

Mom, I miss you, your laughter and love, and your beautiful smile. It has been so hard on your family, who loved you so much, to lose you to Alzheimer's, but you are finally at peace.
