In Celebration of
Donna Williams
May 11, 1961 - April 6, 2016
In Loving Memory of Donna Williams. 54 years. Suddenly at Health Sciences North, on Wednesday, April 6th, 2016. She was the adored wife and soul mate of Bill Crumplin. Loving mother of Tristan, Leah and Tara Hofmann. Cherished daughter of Alan and Marion (nee Potts) (predeceased) Williams. Much loved sister of Doug (Frank McCaughey) and Rob (Wendy). Aunt of Katie, Eric, Jamie and Ahsha. Daughter-in-law of Jack (predeceased)(wife Joyce) Crumplin and Mary Crumplin. Sister-in-law of Mary Kay Klaus (Jergen), Carol Ann Cox (Tom) and Kevin (predeceased). She will be deeply missed by her many friends.
Donna served as the Program Manager for the Atlas of Canada for several years and was an active and dynamic member of both the Canadian Association of Geographers and the Canadian Cartographic Association for more than twenty-five years. She made many important contributions to the development of the Atlas of Canada. Her leadership in rethinking the design and delivery of the Atlas took advantage of new on-line techniques, which led to innovative user-centred design and strengthened the Atlas as a tool for Canadians. She also researched the spatial and temporal impacts of competitive youth sports on family dynamics and geographies. Due to these and countless other contributions she received the National Award for Geography in the Service of Government or Business in 2012.
Donna was passionate about life, friendship and conversation. She was very creative and enjoyed making jewellery, sculpting, knitting, gardening and vegan cuisine. She was a mentor to many, particularly young women and touched the lives of everyone she met.
A Visitation will be held at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services on Saturday, May 14th, 2016 from 2 to 4pm. Funeral service to follow with a Reception taking place from 5-7pm. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium with entombment in Ottawa at a later date. The family has worked with the Health Sciences North Foundation to establish the “Donna Williams’ MRI Fund” in Donna’s memory and to help fund a second MRI unit for Sudbury to allow for cardiac imaging and diagnostics. Contribution details will be available at the celebration or through the Health Sciences North Foundation (https://www.hsnfoundation.com/).
Donna, you were like angel without any wings. Blessing our lives, with the most precious things. I will cherish the moments we shared with laughter and fun.
