It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Donald Alexander Mullin, on March 10, 2017, in Ottawa, Ontario. Raised in London, Ontario, Don was the youngest of five children. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Don spent much of his life travelling the world, but always shone brightest when surrounded by family. He was well respected in all he did, both during his service with the Canadian Armed Forces and in his civilian career following his release from service. Don is survived by his adoring wife and partner in life of 34 years, Johanna (ne Furlong); loving children Samuel (Miranda), Holly (Ian), and Vanessa; beloved grandchild Elliot; and, brother Ian and sister Barbara (Rick) and his loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.

Predeceased by his parents Samuel and Annie Aileen Mullin, and brothers Ken and Michael (Leticia.)

Donald proudly served with the Canadian Armed Forces for 23 years, retiring at the rank of Warrant Officer. He also volunteered with local fire departments.

A visitation will be held at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Thursday, March 16th, 2017 from 5 to 8 pm, where family will be greeting friends, relatives and colleagues. A Memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 18th, 2017 at 10 am followed by interment in The National Military Cemetery of Canada, located at Beechwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Royal Canadian Legion- Branch 641 in Donald’s honour.

Donald Mullin, you were all we could ask for in a brother-in-law and friend. It was a pleasure to be in your company over the last 10 years and you always made us feel welcome and comfortable. You touched so many lives with your kindness, caring, integrity, loving and peaceful nature. The love you had for my sister Joanie, your kids Samuel (Miranda), Holly (Ian), Vanessa, your Grandson Elliot and your extended family was second to none. You will surely be missed.

Love Bren and Phil

As a parent, I believe the best gift you can give your children is to show them how to treat people. In every conversation, memory or note I've seen about Uncle Don, there's one constant - he treated everyone with respect and kindness.

But Uncle Don's love for his family was above and beyond that. He beamed with pride. The way he treated and loved for my Aunt Joan was something so special. It was adorable! Like a school girl crush. His kids often commented on it - sometimes embarrassed but for the most part, they were proud. Having such a great example of what love should look like is no doubt why Sam, Holly and Vanessa have such big hearts.

I'm forever grateful to have shared the past summers in St. Brendan's with the full Mullin's crew. There are memories I will cherish forever.

Aunt Joan, Sam, Holly, Vanessa - my heart breaks for you and I wish I was there to give you a hug, to laugh, to cry and to celebrate the amazing man you called your husband and father.

xoxoxo
lots of love,
Allison

I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know Donald, but knowing Vanessa, a daughter he raised who loved him dearly and spoke of him often, I am confident that he was an incredible man full of love and laughter. It is with my sincerest condolences that I send your family strength during this difficult time.
