Passed away peacefully in his 87th year at the Perley Rideau Veterans' Health Centre, Ottawa. Born in Jacquet River, NB and left home in 1947 to join the Canadian Armed Forces. He originally joined the Militia, he then joined the Regular Force, the 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion, in 1957 he transferred to the Canadian Ordnance Corps. After a long and distinguished career in the military, he joined the public service for another 13 years of service to Canada. Left to mourn are his children Ron(Christian), Wanda(Dave) and Howard, he is also survived by his partner Irene and his loving sister Bertha Becker as well as many nieces, nephews grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Francis J Bernard and Josephine (nee Duplessis), his sisters, Helen, Josephine, Margaret, Rosanna, Mabel and his brothers John, James and Melvin and his son Erwin. The family would like to acknowledge the medical staff and caregivers at the Perley & Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre whose exceptional care and attention made dad’s final days as comfortable as possible. Friends are invited to gather at the Sacred Space of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave. (east of Vanier parkway) on Saturday October 21 after 10 a.m. Memorial Service will be held at 11a.m. followed by interment with military honours at the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces. Sorry to hear of, David’s passing . Looking through the photos brought back a lot of memories. Had a great visit with him 3 years ago . Will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, James.
