Colonel David Gordon Ling, Life Story
Col Dave Ling, Communications and Electronics Branch, passed from us on 26 June 2015 in his 67th year after a short fight with cancer.
Dave joined the Canadian Armed Forces in September 1966 and completed an engineering program at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Man, and technical training at CFB Clinton, Clinton, Ontario. Dave was recognized for his strong technical and leadership skills and rose through progressively more challenging positions in the C&E Branch with a focus on electronic warfare, communications intelligence, and training. Dave held key positions as Commanding Officer, Canadian Forces Station Holberg, and Commandant, Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics, Kingston, and was selected for an exchange position at RAF Benson in England. Dave retired in September 1998, after 32 years of service, and settled in Ottawa with his family where he undertook new challenges in IT consulting. The highest position Dave held for 46 years was a loving husband to his wife Trudy. He was adored by his favourite children Shannon (Chris) and Heather (Mike). He will be remembered as the bestest, fun-loving Papa to Zachary, Nicholas and Erin. Dave is survived by his brother Brian (Rene), sister-in-laws Terry (Glen) and Maria, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to May Court Hospice, Ottawa or the Military Communications and Electronics Museum, Kingston.
