In Celebration of

Daphne Raven

March 22, 1926 -  December 30, 2016

Passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years. Daphne is predeceased by her loving husband, Lloyd Raven (2003) whom she married on February 23rd, 1946 in Wembley, England and by her brother Roy Butcher and her sister Margery Butcher. At the age of 20, she emigrated to Canada as a War Bride and began her journey on “Pier 21” in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Daphne and Lloyd raised their family in Toronto before moving to Ottawa in 1989. She leaves behind her children Andrew (Susan), Kenneth (Eileen) and Robert (Joanne) as well as her dear grandchildren Paul (Jennifer), James (Amy), Kathleen, Karen (Jared), Kyle, Lesley, Tara (Michael) and Brooke. Dearly missed by great-grandchildren Liam, Norah and Eliza.
While Daphne and Lloyd lived in Toronto, Daphne was active in the community as a hospital volunteer and supporter of the Red Cross. She was an avid and accomplished Bridge player and organized Bridge Clubs in Toronto and at their condominium in Ottawa. Daphne followed the exploits of the Leafs and, later, the Senators and could not be matched for her hockey insights as her sons routinely learned. Until recently, she regularly attended Senators games with her sons and grandchildren. For over forty years she enjoyed summers and the many memorable and important family gatherings and celebrations at the Raven cottage in Haliburton, Ontario.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and caregivers at the Maplewood Retirement Community for all their care and support.
Family and friends will be received for a Celebration of Life at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa from 2-4 PM on March 25, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in our mother’s memory. (http://www.heartandstroke.ca/?gclid=CO6d7Kyln9ECFV62wAodl-8CFA)
