In Celebration of

Christopher George Monro Kirby

June 3, 1929 -  January 10, 2018

Passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Loving husband of Bertha Rose Emmett. Remembered by his daughters, Rosanne (Jack Ledger), Jennifer (Steve Watson) and son Michael (Shelagh Murray). Granddad to Tara, Patrick, Shane, Liam and Samantha.

Chris was born in Kenogami, Quebec in 1929. He moved with his parents, sisters and brother to Westmount, Quebec in 1940. After completion of school, Chris returned to Kenogami to work for Price Brothers on a hydroelectric project on the Shipshaw River. In Kenogami he met and married Georgina Lillian Brady (predeceased in 1996). Chris and Gina moved to Ottawa where the children were born. He obtained an honours degree in Physics at Carleton University. He loved his job at NRC as a Scientist and Inventor, and was instrumental in the invention of the first programmable thermostat (Enerstat) in Canada.

Chris enjoyed a wonderful life and retirement, doing what he loved most, enjoying nature at the cottage (Danford Lake), sunning himself in Sanibel Island and spending quality time with family in Ottawa.

There will be a Celebration Life at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Our deepest thanks and appreciation to all the wonderful caregivers who supported Chris over the past years. In particular, Dr Andrew Aw, Dr. Rajiv Samant, Dr. Peter Souchen, Dr. Jennifer Brodeur and the nurses at Bayshore.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Very sad to hear of Chris' passing, He was an active member of our lake=side community, putting a lot of energy and time into exploring the area, and making walking trails throughout; also getting to know the people of Danford and region, and keeping up relations with them. Chris really was an important and active member of our group. I'm sure he will be sadly missed by the rest of those still involved in the property.
As a person he was charming, knowledgeable and fun to be around.
My sincere condolences to the family.
