In Celebration of

Catharine Jane Green

February 6, 1932 -  May 2, 2018

GREEN, Catharine (nee Kinsman) Peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 with family by her side. She was 86. A gifted musician from an early age and a graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, she had a long career as an accompanist. Our house was always filled with musicians and – for a time – not one piano but two. She was well known in the Ottawa music community for decades. At the piano, her calmness and perfect pitch allowed both experienced singers and young musicians to give their best performances. She cherished friendships, travelled, skied, played tennis and was, quite possibly, Roger Federer’s biggest fan.

Loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, she will be missed by her family Barb (Chris), Karen (John), Doug (Chantal), Susan (Tom), Nancy (Brian), Joanne (Scott), Andrea; grandchildren Kate (Josh), Paul (Sharena), Carly, Peter, Amy, Christopher, Phillip, Isabella, Daryl (Christina), Deanna, Elise (Rick), James, Liam, Cameron; great-grandchildren Henry and Charlie; and Marg (Terry). Our thanks to Oakpark Retirement Community for their dedicated and compassionate care. Donations in Cathy’s memory may be made to further dementia and Alzheimer’s research, or to any of Ottawa’s music festivals and youth music programs.

Family and friends are invited to visit at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue (East of Vanier Parkway) on Friday, June 22, 2018 for a gathering from 12:30 p.m., and the Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. in the Sacred Space.

Cathy was my accompanist early in my singing life. She was always positive and respectful with her comments as she understood how delicate singers could be. I can remember going to coaching sessions at her place and being greeted by Bear who would sit obediently and listen to both my good and bad sessions. She was a wonderful person whom I will always remember fondly. My condolences for your loss.

My mother and I have been thinking of your family since reading the notice. I remember fondly childhood visits to your home in Alta Vista with Stu and Cathy hosting us for movies and fun. Two Generations of Greens taught two generations of Armstrongs to drive and we have tried to remember those lessonsall these years, as well as the example of fun set by your parents. We were sorry not to be able to attend the service and are very sorry for the loss of gifted mother.
